Plant Tour

Middleton, Wisconsin is home to our 50,000 square foot branch office, manufacturing, design and global operations facility. The two-story manufacturing plant is divided into two main manufacturing floors that are separated by our clean room, Hi-Rel (high reliability) test lab and crystal etch room. Visitors to either of the manufacturing floors will find a vast array of the latest manufacturing and test equipment in a pristine assembly environment operated by a well-trained team of experienced professionals.

Due to the large numbers of military devices that are produced at this facility, our team adheres to detailed work travelers and comprehensive binders of work instructions to ensure that are all of the devices we manufacture are compliant with strict industry standards, including both military and commercial grades.

Due to the large numbers of military devices that are produced at this facility, our team adheres to detailed work travelers and comprehensive binders of work instructions to ensure that are all of the devices we manufacture are compliant with strict industry standards, including both military and commercial grades.

While our customers looking for commercial-grade devices do not require the same standard of high-reliability manufacturing processes demanded by military users, all of our high-end crystals, filters and oscillators are made according to the same manufacturing processes, but without the high price tag. For our commercial grade devices, Wi2Wi is an ISO 9001:2008 registered facility that is RoHS* compliant. For our Hi-Rel, military grade products, we are certified to MIL-STD-790 Product Assurance (a QPL listed company). (*RoHS, also known as Lead-Free, stands for Restriction of Hazardous Substances.)

Quality assurance standards are applied at every step of the manufacturing processes, from Wi2Wi's fully ISO / QPL / QML approved incoming raw materials QA cage to the end customer. Our commercial grade, Middleton built products go through the same inspection, handling and process lines as our Hi-Rel devices. Such compliance ensures unparalleled quality and exacting compliance to device specifications for both our commercial and government customers and. All testing is conducted by our highly qualified technicians who have had extensive training and certifications for the tasks they perform. Further, as devices are tested in-house, rather than being sent to out-of-house test subcontractors, our customers save time and money.

Our ISO 14644-1 & 2, Class 7 (FED-STD-209E), Class 10,000 clean room is located in the middle of our two manufacturing floors. This clean room is vital for the manufacturing of crystal frequency tolerances that produce highly stable devices. And although not a hard requirement for the manufacturing of frequency devices, our clean room ensures the highest level of quality for other commercial procedures such as base plating, plasma cleaning, vacuum sealing, etc.

The equipment in our clean room includes loading and cement stations (manual and automated), Saunders 5600 base platters with plasma cleaning, Crest ultrasonic wash tanks, Saunders 5250 final platters, Samco ozone strip systems, cold weld pre-seal tube ovens, cold weld vacuum sealers, ESP resistance welders and more. As our customers can see, no expense has been spared to make this clean room one of the industry's best for processing crystals.

The crystal tech room at Wi2Wi has some of the most modern process equipment available, including four-way polishing, Future Fab 2-Station Pre-Wash, Crest 6-Station Automated Wash and SemiTool Spin Dryer systems that are all in compliance ISO and Government standards.

With Crystal Filters being a large part of Wi2Wi's overall business, the second manufacturing floor area has dedicated assembly lines and in-depth test systems in place to accommodate not only small, moderate and high volumes of standard types, but also complex multi-pole filters, which are sold to the top names in the NAV/COM, radio and communication industries world-wide.

Wi2Wi takes great pride in our in-house ability to perform critical tests on our crystals, crystal filters and oscillators. For example, our leak test station can detect the smallest of leaks in sealed frequency devices, meeting and often exceeding test standards even for Hi-Rel devices. Wi2Wi's Thermal Shock testing is also extensive and is performed to the demanding MIL-STD-883 and Method 1011 industry standards, enabling us to provide customers with only the highest quality products.

Wi2Wi performs both mechanical shock and vibration testing in house, compliant to MIL-STD-202, Method 204 and Method 204 for Swept Sine. Our constant Acceleration G-Force test system complies with MIL-STD-883, Method 2001 for all Hi-Rel test requirements up to 5,000 G's with capabilities to 8,000 G's. Altitude Pressure testing is also a standard in-house test at Wi2Wi, one that is compliant with MIL-STD-202, Method 1050 standards and has been proof tested to 70,000 feet!

For our international aerospace customers, Wi2Wi oversees Radiation Tolerance Testing compliant with MIL-STD-883. With Total Dose testing, Method 1019 and Neutron Irradiation testing, and Method 1017, Wi2Wi is able to deliver the highest quality QPL crystals and oscillators in the industry. In addition to standard radiation testing, Wi2Wi also oversees EDLRS (Enhanced Loss Dose Rate Effects) testing for our crystals and oscillators. Since an electronic system that is deployed in space can encounter ionizing dose rates of 0.001 rad (si) / second, or less, testing for this phenomenon is of particular concern because the design margins that enable circuits to tolerate radiation are often based on characterization data obtained at the standard 50 to 300 rad (Si) / second dose rate.

Wi2Wi also performs electrical testing that includes power burn-in that is compliant to MIL-STD-883, Method 1015, measuring frequency output, device stability tolerance (in ppm), duty cycle, current draw and rise and fall times. As Zachariah Mathews, Wi2Wi's President and CEO said, "With the consistent quality that has earned Wi2Wi "Preferred Supplier" status at an abundance of Fortune 500 companies, we invite you to consider us for such a partnership position with your company!"
